I’m writing to ask you to help with our crowdfunding campaign for our Madison Wisconsin Mutual Aid Network pilot site – the Mutual Aid Workspace (the MAW) at the Social Justice Center, in the sincere belief that doing this successfully for us helps all our related projects more successfully build resources in the future. You can help make it so!
Because of the organizations at the Social Justice Center, 2,000 youth have participated in Youth Court restorative justice, 5,000 people have lived in affordable, cooperative housing, 8,500 LGBTQ-identified folks have received books while incarcerated, and 2,000 free rides to medical appointments were given.
Each year, 20,000 people access tenant/landlord and housing assistance, 2,080 packages of books are sent to individuals incarcerated in Wisconsin, and 5000 hours will be spent by neighbors helping neighbors.
I’m reaching out to you because we’re about to kickoff a massive crowdfunding campaign and I need your help to bring in as many supporters as possible.
Our local Madison MAN Cooperative and its in-development Mutual Aid Workspace – designed for co-working, collaboration, and commons-building, are a core part of the Social Justice Center along with a bunch of other amazing social justice groups. The SJC is a collective of local organizations working on a multitude of issues including housing, restorative justice, arts and media, progressive policy-making, prison literacy and more through a variety of approaches including grassroots campaigns, mutual aid, timebanking, direct service and cooperative development.
Our vision for the Social Justice Center is to be a hub of Madison social justice organizing, collaboration and activism. And to make this vision a reality, we are transforming our shared building on Willy Street. It will be the homebase of experimenting with Mutual Aid Networks, learning and sharing with our neighborhood and the rest of the world. And to work that way it needs to be open, bright, beautiful, and useful. We are halfway done with renovations and we need to raise a lot of money to pay our construction bills and finish it right.
We need to raise $50,000 before the end of the year (and more beyond that, and the more we raise the more cool stuff we can do!) so our team is reaching out to our personal and professional networks to get the fundraising campaign off to a great start to encourage our donors and community to step up and give big. The most successful crowdfunding campaigns are those that start out strong, so I was hoping you could count on you to make a donation on launch day so our campaign is set up for success. The campaign starts Monday, November 19th, so I’m reaching out ahead of time so you have a head’s up and can join in when the campaign goes live.
If you want to learn more, watch our campaign video and visit our website. I will send out an e-mail next Monday the 19th when the campaign goes live with a link to the page, but check facebook for an invite to our virtual kickoff event. Every dollar counts so please give what you can, but you can also help us get more supporters on board by sharing the video and campaign page with others.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all, or if you’d like to get involved in other ways!
Thanks and take care,
